APCA E3 One Day Workshops!

The Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities hosted three Educate, Enlighten, and Energize One Day Workshops in the South Central region June 19-21, 2013. During their visit, the APCA School Membership Coordinators, Michael Stephenson and Jondra Darden were able to visit Marjoree Harper, Director of Student Activities at Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier City, LA. They were able to take a tour of the facilities and meet with Marjoree to discuss upcoming events and new additions to APCA events that would help benefit her program. Here is what Marjoree had to say about the APCA staff visiting her campus, "It was wonderful to have Jondra and Michael at Bossier Parish Community College. We had a chance to sit down and talk about challenges facing higher education in Louisiana and how that APCA could help with those. It also gave them an opportunity to see our campus and how we program at our community college with limited space and resources."

On June 19, 2013 the APCA Team headed to Texas A&M - Texarkana where Celeste McNeil Coordinator for Student Engagement and Activities was the host of our first drive in. Marlena Ballard and Kelly Coke of Texas A&M - Texarkana kicked things off with "The New Non-Traditional Student Will Rock Your World." Volunteer facilitators: Jennifer Skinner - University Of Texas at Tyler, Kedrick Nicholas - McNeese University, Marjoree Harper - Bossier Parish Communinity College, and Yonna Pasch - Northwestern State University led roundtable discussions on topics such as retention and programming on a budget. Ryan Penneau taught our attendees how to market like a rockstar! He focused on developing more energy to influence, recruit, and retain students to clubs and events. Yonna Pasch, Director of Student Activities at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA gave an inspirational presentation about her story of adversity, adaptability, and being your own advocate titled, "When Life Hands you Lemons, Make Pink Lemonade."

Louisiana State University - Eunice was our next stop. On June 20, 2013 Althea Jackson, Director of Student Activities along with Dean of Students, Judy Daniels helped co-sponsor our E3 Drive In with APCA. Adam Lambert discussed Legal Issues in Higher Education including topics such as the Clery Act and FERPA. Dr. Paul Fowler, Director of Developmental Education at Louisiana State University - Eunice discussed Trends in Student Retention. Ryan Penneau got everyone excited to go back to their campuses and encourage students to get involved with his Rockstar Marketing presentation. We would also like to thank our volunteer roundtable facilitators at this event, Kedrick Nicholas - McNeese University, Ryan Penneau, Crystal Rougeau - LSUE, and Chelsea Collins - LSUE. They led topics regarding inter-department colloaboration, leadership training, diversity and inclusion, and civility and community service. We woud also like to thank our student leaders and grad students for their input during our focus group.

We ended our E3 Drive Ins in Houston, TX at Houston Baptist University where Krista Nix, Assistant Director of Student Involvment hosted the APCA / HANSAUP E3 One Day Workshop and Business Meeting. Adam Lambert again discussed Legal Issues in Higher Education and addressed questions from workshop participants. Dakota Doman, Director of Student Activities at Lamar University, APCA SC Regional Coordinator, and HANSAUP Vice President said, "Adam was very knowlegable and gave an awesome presentation to inform us about legal issues we may face as higher education professionals." Attendees also participated in roundtable discussions and addressed new business with HANSAUP. For more information about HANSAUP, please contact Marquis Gatewood at gatewom@stthom.edu.

Throughout the conference, students were able to interact with each other as well. APCA provides excellent late night activities for students that can be booked on site and can come to their campus for specific events.  They also had the chance to mingle with associates, and received tons of free swag at our APCA Exhibit Hall. Social Media awards were also given throughout the conference to the students who tweeted, posted pictures to instagram, or posted to Facebook on the APCA social media pages. The winners of each received a special prize from the APCA.

Danielle Colby from the hit TV show, American Pickers joined us for all of our Fall Programming Conferences. It was the perfect chance for our participants to come and meet Danielle. There was also plenty of time to snap a picture with her and get her autograph during the APCA Exhibit Hall.
We hope to see you all soon!

Project Storehouse to Deliver Essentials and Replenish Food Banks in the Affected Louisiana Area

Posted 8/30/12, Updated 9/4/12

Jondra Darden, APCA School Membership Coordinator presents check to Project Storehouse.

The Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA) got involved with The Lord’s Child and Project Storehouse at the Walmart in Sevierville and Knoxville at Knoxville Center and Turkey Creek. Between 5-9 P.M. 8/29- 8/31 they loaded food, water, and supplies for Hurricane Isaac victims.

The Sevierville non-profit organization, The Lord’s Child hosted the event.  They collected a number of non-perishables to be delivered to those who have been impacted by the hurricane.

The APCA’s Executive Director, Eric Lambert is from the affected area.  He strongly encourages all those who can to help in any way.  The APCA donated a check to support these efforts on Friday, August 31 at the Walmart in Sevierville, TN on 1414 Parkway.

I was able to go down and help out at Project Storehouse this past weekend. The amount of goods being delivered and the help from local volunteers were amazing!
Check out this video of The APCA helping out at the Turkey Creek Walmart.

Project Storehouse will have these items delivered to the area soon. Please stay tuned for more details on where these items can be retrieved. If you are aware of students or advisors impacted by the storms, please contact the APCA.

If you would like more information on this topic, please contact the APCA at

He enjoys the satisfaction of putting together large events with a small staff. His favorite thing is seeing new people make a career out of college events and programs. Something interesting about Phil is that he had stitches three different times as a kid, all on his face!

She is a Gold & Platinum Grammy-award winning songwriter and has written for the legendary Ray Charles, John Legend, The Temptations, Steve Winwood and En Vogue to name a few. Her favorite things about working with the APCA are meeting new people, the opportunities to travel, and seeing how conferences inspire students and advisors to make a difference on their campus and within their communities through programming. Her hobbies include choreographing, being with friends and family, and watching basketball. Something interesting about Jondra is she competed around the country with a baton twirling team until she went to college. Her motto is Love to Live!
