This year, the APCA has incorporated “The RENT Experience” during its 7th annual Student Life Advisor’s Institute and
Student Leadership Workshop that will be held in New York City, NY July 27-29, 2012.
Included in the experience are opportunities to see the award winning
Broadway performance of RENT at the New World Stages Theatre and a luncheon at the
famous Sardi’s Restaurant on Friday, the 27th.
Sardi’s is located in New York City’s theatre district in
Manhattan. Many celebrities frequent
Sardi’s before and after they attend shows in the city. It is also highly famous
for its walls and walls of caricatures of popular celebrities. During the
Sardi’s luncheon, Eric Lambert, Executive
Director of the APCA will present an inspirational speech to the students and
advisors attending. In previous years, Mr. Lambert has moved many by his
motivating words and incorporation of the conference theme.
Also at the luncheon, Joe Norton, Director of Education and
Outreach from Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS will accept a check from the
APCA in hopes to inspire HIV awareness, prevention and testing, and reduce the AIDS
stigma particularly in the college market.
On the morning of the 28th, those who attended
the performance of RENT will gather with Lone Star College-Cyfair’s Daniel
Villaneuva to discuss learning outcomes from the production. This is the perfect opportunity for advisors
to learn how to incorporate Broadway shows into curriculum while implementing
learning outcomes students can benefit from as well.
We
are thrilled about all of the events occurring during the conference this year!
In
addition, we are so excited to see everyone attending the event, encouraged by
the educational and networking opportunities, and thrilled about being in the
heart of “The Big Apple.” In particular, we are thankful to Sardi’s for
allowing us to use their venue and provide our participants with a lunch
experience of a lifetime. And we would also like to thank Broadway Cares
/ Equity Fights AIDS for everything they do with their organization. We strive
to encourage APCA fans to research this amazing foundation and consider
incorporating them into your board’s fundraisers and campaigns.
